TripTych’s design consists of a single 2400 building shell that is divisible into 800 square foot modules. These modules can be combined or divided into dwelling units with incremental sizes of 800 / 1600 / 2400 square feet over the lifespan of the building.

We’ve designed TripTych so owners can reconfigure each module if their needs change with time. A 2400 sf single family home can be downsized to one 1600 sf home plus an 800 sf rental unit. That same single family home could also be configured into three separate 800 sf rental units.

We designed TripTych as a house system instead of a static home by systemizing how units can be reconfigured. Standardized wall, window, door and service locations allow for minimal renovation between the configurations.

  • Triptych prototype is an adaptable housing system with three possible interior configurations within one standardized 2400 square foot structure - consisting of three 800 square foot ‘modules’. The ‘3 Module’ configuration is a standard 2400 square foot residence; the’ 2+1 Module’ configuration consists of one 1600 square foot unit (2 modules) with a secondary 800 square foot unit (1 module); and the ‘1+1+1 Module’ configuration consists of three 800 square foot ground-oriented dwelling units. Standardized wall, window, door and service locations allow for minimal renovation between the three configurations. An additional 800 square foot laneway module can be added to further increase density on any urban lot to 4 units - all ground-oriented.

  • To maximize both reconfigurability and usable floor space, Triptych consolidates plumbing, electrical, and mechanical services into vertical spines, minimizing visible services in the exposed ceilings and simplifying the prefabrication process.

    Prefabricated floor panels, placed between the module demising walls, achieve efficient unit costs and allow for a systematic approach to locating services.

Standard Configurations

  • 1 Dwelling

    Consisting of ‘3 Modules’ combined into one standard 2400 sq ft single family home - featuring 3-4 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, and a flex space. Modules can be adapted over time and reconfigured into separate 800 sq ft dwelling units.

  • 2 Dwellings

    The’ 2+1 Module’ configuration consists of one 1600 square foot 3 bedroom / 2.5 bathroom unit (2 modules), plus a secondary 800 square foot 2 bedroom / 2.5 bathroom unit (1 module).

  • 3 Dwellings

    The ‘1+1+1 Module’ configuration consists of three 800 square foot ground-oriented dwelling units. Dwelling units could be configured as a single family home plus two rental units, or three separate dwelling units. Each dwelling units contains 2 bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms.

  • 3 Dwellings + Laneway

    Three 800 sq ft dwellings contained within the standardized 2,400 sq ft footprint of the primary dwelling, plus a separate 800 sq ft laneway dwelling. Each dwelling units contains 2 bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms.

Architectural & Attainable

Modern in its systemized design and architectural in its form, TripTych feels like a custom architectural home - but without the challenges of custom design and construction.

By standardizing design and manufacturing along with smartly flat-packing TripTych to be shipped for on-site assembly, we’ve reduced the multiple mark-ups found in traditional construction. The end product is a more budget friendly home with architectural design and finishes.

How TripTych works

Homes shouldn’t be one and done. TripTych is designed to evolve with your needs over time. Inspired by a Japanese ‘Bento’ lunchbox within which individual compartments are contained, TripTych dwellings can be added and/or reconfigured as your housing needs change. This adaptability extends beyond the original homeowner, future proofing equity with increased embedded resale value in every TripTych home.

Adaptable configurations

Consisting of three possible interior configurations within one standardized 2400 square foot structure - each 800 square foot ‘module’ is ground-oriented and can be combined into a single family home or configured as individual dwellings. Modules are designed to be easily reconfigured as needs change.

Pre-manufactured offsite

TripTych is pre-manufactured offsite with certified production partners using a rigorously standardized process. Repeatable manufacturing allows us to optimize architectural quality while efficiently reducing cost.

Flat-packed and shipped

TripTych is not a modular manufactured home. We don’t think it makes sense to ship air. TripTych homes are flat-packed and shipped to site to significantly reduce cost.

Assembled on-site

TripTych isn’t built using traditional stick-frame construction methods. Assembly on-site versus traditional construction on-site takes less time and less money. Because we systemized design and manufacturing, less specialized labour is required and certified assembly partners can build TripTych in under 6 months.
