The home of potential.

TripTych was originally conceived by Leckie Studio Architecture + Design in response to  the need for attainable urban housing.

A young, ambitious architecture practice that seeks to initiate cultural change through design, Leckie Studio started with the belief that homes are platforms for potential - and that attainable homes can be aspirational, equitable and sustainable.

TripTych is the recipient of a 2023 Canadian Architect Award of Merit.
A wonderful, contemporized interpretation of the Vancouver Special using prefabricated components. This systematic approach makes it easy to imagine a wide range of ways to intensify single family lots in ways that can support multiple households.” — Michael Heeney / Juror

Leckie Studio Architecture + Design
Leckie Studio is an interdisciplinary design studio based in Vancouver, Canada. The practice was founded in 2015 as a platform to craft singular, thought-provoking and imaginative architectural work. The studio is conceived as a vehicle for creative speculation, combining architecture and creative entrepreneurship to expand the boundaries of traditional architecture practice through research, client commissions and self-initiated projects.

Launched in 2016 in partnership with Leckie Studio, The Backcountry Hut Company was born from a deep appreciation of the outdoors and a desire to lightly put down roots in the places we seek adventure.

BHC set out with the goal to provide clients with highly coordinated prefabricated recreational structures using a prefabricated ‘kit-of-parts’ methodology. Rather than design specific ‘models’ for cabins, Leckie Studio developed a series of cabin ‘systems’ that employ a component-based approach to design and construction. The systems are scalable and customizable – adapting to a wide range of potential use scenarios.

With 50+ builds since 2016, the easy to assemble kits can be deployed by groups of volunteers or homeowner builders, empowering people to have agency in the design and construction of small scale architecture. People who are willing to apply a ‘do-it-yourself’ attitude can achieve phenomenal value compared to standard market construction rates.

Adapting valuable learnings from the Backcountry Hut Company, TripTych leverages a systemised approach to component-based design and pre-manufacturing while leveraging flat-pack shipping and kit-of-parts assembly on site.

The Backcountry Hut Company systems have received numerous accolades and awards, including:

2023 / Good Design Awards / Winner - Architectural Design Category
2021 ARCHITECT Magazine / Residential Architect Design Awards / Merit Award
2016 Canadian Architect Awards / Award of Merit
